Method and kit for diagnosis of malignant hyperpyrexia

A method for detecting in a human or animal patient the muscle membrane defect leading to the susceptibility of the patient to malignant hyperpyrexia (MH) and/or non-anaesthetic complications, comprises the step of determining the level of inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate phosphatase (InsP35-ase) or nucleotide sequence encoding same or part thereof in a sample taken from the patient, and comparing the level so determined with the corresponding level in a control sample. A diagnostic kit is also disclosed.
