The invention concerns a smart cassette (1) with a built-in magnetic interface (2), an analogue/digital and digital/analogue converter (3), a processor (4), memory modules (5), a power generator (6, 7), a current controller (8) and a battery (9). In order to further develop a cassette of this kind so that it can be used as a digital tape cassette with conventional cassette recorders ,the invention proposes that digitized music be loaded via a digital interface (11) by a loading device (13), through its interface (14), into the processor (4), where the music is compressed, and then stored in the memory (5). The digitized music can subsequently be loaded from the memory (5) into the processor (4), where it is decompressed, and played, via the digital/analogue converter with amplifiers (3) and the magnetic interface (2), on conventional cassette players with the sound quality normal for digital music recordings.
