This invention relates to a water attraction for amusement parks comprising a water ride that injects a flow of water onto a riding surface, wherein said flow of water has sufficient flow characteristics and volume to permit a rider to maneuver thereon. The flow of water from said water ride also has sufficient momentum transfer and kinetic energy to drive a predominantly unidirectional flowing body of water in a channel. The channel contains a predominantly unidirectional flowing body of water having a preselected width, depth and topography to create various flow changes and rapid effects. A rider enters the water ride and can maneuver on the riding surface, and thereafter may enter into the channel to ride the unidirectional flowing body of water. Various other water rides can also be positioned adjacent the channel so that the rider can enter the other rides directly from the channel, wherein the channel provides a queue for waiting participants.
