Process for the preparation of polymers wherein linear alternating polymers of carbon monoxide with one or more olefins having 3 to 10 carbon atoms per molecule (C₃₋₁₀ olefins) and optionally in addition with ethene are prepared by contacting the monomers at elevated temperature and pressure with a suitable catalyst in the presence of a liquid diluent consisting substantially of the C₃₋₁₀ olefin(s) used as monomer(s).
