When repairing a fuel assembly damaged on the periphery of a spacer assembly (3), it has always been the aim heretofore, despite the damaged cells, to insert a fuel pin (2) or a dummy fuel pin into the corresponding fuel pin position. In order to avoid this considerable expenditure, another way is proposed in which the damaged webs (7) of a cell (6) are separated and the fuel pin (2) is removed without replacement. The fuel assembly repaired in this way is inserted in the fuel assembly unit of a core charge in a core position such that a power increase in the fuel pins adjacent to the free position remains within the prescribed power limits.
