process and apparatus (10) for processing images to determine the proliferation index in a cell sample by staining the cells with a chromogen and a substance with a counter proliferation and stained for cell nuclei.the chromogen is activated by an antibody enzyme conjugate that binds to the substance to produce a colored sample cell proliferation. we examine the stained cell sample using an optical microscope (12), which is a part of the device, and which produces an image of the sample cell.the filter device optically (18) the image of the cell sample and two optically enhanced image, the essence of proliferation and cell nuclei. electronically enhanced images are analyzed to determine the quantity of the cell nuclei and proliferation substance it contains.we then compared these numbers to obtain a proliferation index for the portion of the sample cell which emerges on the image of the sample cell.
