An improved method for tracking relationships between instances of objects in an object-oriented computing system is disclosed. The method utilizes a new class of objects, referred to as relationship objects, to store relationship information. Each instance of a relationship object stores information specifying the manner in which in pair of instances of objects are related by a predetermined relationship.
