For the purpose of a production of reaction containers, especially biogas containers, which is as simple as possible in terms of construction, and also for the retrofitting of containers (10) open at the top, the invention provides a container cover, in which the open top side of the container (10) is covered by means of at least two foils (3, 4) which are arranged one above the other and are fastened all-round to the pit edge (2) in a gas-tight manner and of which the upper, outer foil (3) is under a constant gas pressure which amounts to more than 1 and which curves the foil (3) convexly outwards in a rigid manner, there being provided between the outer foil (3) and the foil (4) arranged within the gas space of the biogas pit a separate intermediate chamber (5), the gas volume of which is variable in a controlled manner. At the same time, the circumferential edge regions of the outer foil (3) and of the inner foil (4), jointly bearing against one another, are pressed, on a protective support (for example, protective foil (37)) at least twice against angled sealing edges (top edge (2) and angle profiles (32)), and they are pressed together, at least at one sealing edge, by means of an additional clamping ring (43) over the sealing edge (32). For the simplified operation of a biogas container (2') covered in this way, there is also provided a gas-tight shaft and shank bushing (20') through the side wall (1') of the container (2'), which, on one of its limiting faces lying in the direction of the container side wall, has a wall (inner wall) with an orifice, through which extends a drive shaft (14') which is located inside an, for example, oil-filled protective tube (13') and which, moreover, is fastened in a gas-tight manner within a bushing in a spherical body (21') which is held in a gas-tight manner, but so as to be pivotable horizontally and vertically, by retaining rings (23', 24') provided on the two hemisphere sides and bearing in a dome-shaped manner, the retaining rings (23', 24') preferably bearing with an annular sealing face of the spherical body (21') and being fastened to the wall (12') of the insert body (3') around the orifice (26') of the latter in a gas-tight manner.
