The invention relates to the use of a compound of formula (I): IMAGE where the broken lines represent a double bond at position 2 or 3 or two double bonds at positions 2 and 4, for the purpose of reducing or eliminating bad breath by means of a composition for buccal use containing at least one of the abovementioned compounds and a physiologically acceptable vehicle, as well as to a process of buccal hygiene for eliminating bad breath, consisting in applying such a composition in the buccal cavity.
