Disclosed is an optical fiber cable wound about an overhead transmission line stretched between supporting poles installed a predetermined distance apart from each other. The optical fiber cable comprises a tension member (1), a plurality of plural-core type optical fiber tape strands (4) arranged on the outside of the tension member (1), a buffer layer (5) positioned to cover the outer surface of the arrangement of the plural-core type optical fiber tape strands (4), and a sheath (6) positioned to cover the outer surface of the buffer layer (5). The particular construction permits the optical fiber cable to house a larger number of optical fibers while maintaining a high heat resistance and satisfactory mechanical properties.
