The method of matching two graphs associated with physical entities, the two graphs respectively including a number of nodes N1 and N2 such that N1 /= N2, consists, by an optimisation process, in iteratively modifying an association function denoted F between the nodes of the two graphs so as to minimise, by successive approximation, a function C (F) called matching cost function and defined in such a way as to constitute a measurement of the error in the association effected by the current association function. Application in the field of image analysis and particularly to the registration of images originating from different sensors and to three-dimensional pattern recognition. IMAGE
