In the case of an electrode holder for immersion, through-flow and attachable measuring systems in analytical chemistry having an outer tube in which an inner tube carrying the sensor is mounted so as to be displaceable in a sliding manner, it is proposed, for the benefit of automatic operation by means of an auxiliary energy, to provide a fail-safe device which is subjected to the pressure of the auxiliary energy and which, as a result of a spring being pretensioned and by means of a blocking element, mechanically blocks the axial displacement of the inner tube if the auxiliary energy fails. To this end, a piston in a cylinder guided statically at the outer tube is provided, which piston is actuated on one side by the pressure of the auxiliary energy and on the other side by a pretensioning spring.
