A radial centrifugal compressor includes as a device for stabilizing the operating characteristics a circulation chamber (31) which makes it possible to equalize the pressure between the rotor and the intake zone. The intake zone contains an intake ring (10) which makes it possible to influence the flow in the intake zone, so as to stabilize the operating characteristics essentially without losses. By adjusting the intake ring (10), the compressor can be adapted to the specific requirements of each client.
