The present invention relates to an improved method of preparing 3-phenoxy-1-azetidinecarboxamide of the general formula (I) useful for the treatment of epileptic seizures.;Wherein n is 1-3 and X is H, halogen, trifluoromethyl, C RTI ID = 0.0 _One-C₄Alkyl, C_One-C₄Alkoxy, acetyl or aminocarbonyl, and R is H or methyl. The method involves heating 3-phenoxyazetidine with urea to obtain the compound of formula (I). Urea is inexpensive and can be easily removed by washing the solid product of general formula (I) with water.
