Coating bitumen - contains straight-run bitumen and non-toxic solvent contg. petroleum ether with white spirit or with toluene@ and isopropanol

Coating bitumen (I) contg. straight-run bitumen (II) and a solvent (III) contains 35-50wt.% petroleum ether b.pt. 100/125 (IV) and at least 10wt.% of another hydrocarbon (V). Specifically, (V) is a white spirit with 16-18% aromatics content, which is mixed with at least 40wt.% (IV), or (V) is toluene, in amts. of less than 20wt.% together with not above 45wt.% aliphatic alcohol and the petroleum ether (IV), pref. in a mixt. contg. 45 +/- 4wt.% (IV) and 17.5 +/- 2wt.% toluene with isopropyl alcohol as the rest. USE/ADVANTAGE - Compsn. contains largely non-toxic solvents, without the disadvantages of prior-art systems (e.g., air pollution due to trichloroethylene or other solvents, poor long-term stability and frost sensitivity of emulsion systems etc.); the solvent mixt. contg. isopropanol is also partly biodegradable.
