The machine incorporates rotary brushes (4,5) and has one or more driving rollers (2,3) bearing against the surface (7) of the escalator (6) and driven by it. A drive mechanism couples the rollers to the brushes, which travel over the escalator surface. An additional brush can be mounted on the end of a telescopic boom, being movable parallel to the front of the machine and also driven by the roller.
