Pore-free casting of grey cast iron@ - in temp. controlled metal mould using graphite eutectic compsn.

Casting grey cast iron parts consists of casting a grey coast iron eutectic compsn. with high amt. of crystallisation nuclei in a metal mould. The mould temp. is controlled at a predetermined optimal temp. by circulating cooling fluid through channels (4) in response to temp. measuring of the mould via sensors (5). USE/ADVANTAGE - Producing grey cast iron with lamella, vermicular and spheroidal graphite. Castings have at least 50% higher strength and toughness than sand castings due to their fine grain structure. Also have approx. 50% better machinability as measured by work time due to absence of ledeburite.
