The measuring device has a sensor (23) with an associated support (25) attached to the patient's body. The sensor has a sliding force application device (41), incorporating a light source (45) and at least one photosensor (71) coupled to an electronic evaluation device (81) incorporating a read-out display (83). Pref. the force application device is acted on by a pneumatic or hydraulic pressure device (51) with a hollow space supplied with the pneumatic or hydraulic fluid having a deformable wall (53). Alternatively the force application device is operated by an electric motor. ADVANTAGE - Increased accuracy, with maximised ratio of pulsing light to dead light.
