The invention relates to a tight and insulating tank integrated in the supporting structure of a ship, consisting of two successive sealing barriers which alternate with two heat-insulating courses, provision being made for the second insulating course to consist of two layers of heat-insulating elements (4, 14) lying one above the other, of which the first layer lies exactly under the second sealing barrier (27), while the second layer is located between the first layer and the supporting structure (1) of the ship, for each of the two layers of the second insulating course to be formed from insulating boxes (4, 14) which have supporting webs running parallel to one another in the interior, and for the webs of the boxes of both layers to be orientated at an angle to one another which is not 0 DEG but preferably about 90 DEG . A considerable improvement in the insulating properties of tight and heat-insulating tanks integrated in the supporting structure of a ship is achieved without a noticeable increase in cost.
