For producing moulded parts of polystyrene foam together with a rigid polystyrene film, it is proposed to preform the film, which is brought to its softening temperature and is held firmly at the edges, a mould half in the form of a core being taken beyond the plane of the film. A partial vacuum is then produced between the film and the core in order to bring the film into close contact with the core. The polystyrene foam is then compression-moulded between the core of the one mould half and the mould cavity of the other mould half by the said foam being subjected to successive surges of vapour and vacuum in such a way that the polystyrene is sintered and stably bonded to the film, to be precise also in the region of contact with the film. The product thus obtained is produced in a single compression-moulding operation.
