The communication system uses a number of earth satellites (2, 3) each moving in a quasi-stationary, elliptical orbit, so that they reach the same point in the sky in a cyclic sequence. The satellites (2, 3) are used for communication with an earth station in succession, dependant on their orbital positions with storage of the communicated bits at the switch-over point for allowing their repetition. Pref. 3 satellites move in elliptical orbits with an eccentricity of 0.713 and an orbit time of 12 hours.
