The cellulose esters are in the form of essentially spherical, partially crystalline particles having a mean diameter of from 1 to 200  mu m and a specific surface area of from 10 to 300 m2/g and are suitable as the stationary phase in chromatographic methods, in particular for the resolution of racemates.
