A hollow plug made of rubbery material for insertion in a container of freeze-dried material, esp. medicament, has a head flange integral with a hollow spigot. The plug cavity increases in dia. towards its open lower end. The internal side walls defining the cavity tie completely outside a cone whose axis is that of the plug and whose peak angle exceeds the value defined by a given formula related to the max. dia. ofthe upper cylindrical section of the spigot. An axial bore communicating with a radial bore provide a gas bleed while the plug is being inserted. Semicircular projections on the outer face of the plug define a limited internal area wherein can be pushed the point of a hollow cannule for extracting the container contents.
