The circular saw unit (4) is mounted on a baseplate (2) which has a work support surface (3) on both sides. The saw blade and guard (18) are suspended on a linkage (17,19) permitting the saw blade to be traversed vertically when the machine is being used in the cut-off mode. In the table saw mode the baseplate and saw unit are inverted and the saw locked so that the saw blade protrudes through a slot in the table. Locking is achieved by a telescopic strut (12) secured at one end (13) to the fixed block (9) and sliding at the other end into a detent position in a bracket (15) fastened to the link (19).
