A geometrical drawing instrument which can be used either as compasses or dividers has one leg (2) which has a socket (3) in which an adaptor (8) can be fitted. The adaptor (8) is made of plastic and is provided either with a lead for compasses, or with a needle for dividers. The adaptor has an extension (9) with at least two longitudinal ribs (10). The diameter of the socket (3) matches the diameter of the extension of the adaptor and the socket has longitudinal grooves (4) to receive the longitudinal ribs of the adaptor extension.
