Angular position sensor for rotary shaft - uses evaluation of signals from coarse and precision measuring stages to obtain shaft mean position

The angular position sensor has a precision sensor stage providing the shift position within a measuring range of 360 degrees and a coarse position sensor, providing the shaft position relative to the full shaft rotation range. The latter has a given position relative to the mean position of the shaft, the latter determined by evaluating the measuring signals from the coarse and/or precision measuring stages. Pref. the evaluation of the measuring signals is effected by obtaining an arithmetic mean value, each measuring stage pref. comprising an absolute angle indicator, their outputs supplied in parallel via an incremental source.
