Lateral compaction of soil layers - by pressing wedge-shaped form into soil layers at set intervals by roller or compaction plate to raise soils lateral stiffness
In addition to compacting the soil vertically, a lateral stiffening of the soil can be achieved by the introduction of shaped sections (1) into the soil layers. These sections are compressed into the soil by a roller (2) or a compaction plate. The triangular sections are placed resting on one face on the surface of the soil. When the roller presses the sections down, it rotates them so that they lie buried with one side flush with the soil surface and a vertex pointed downwards. A further layer of soil is spread on top, more shaped sections are laid down and the process is completed. USE/ADVANTAGE - Vertical compaction of soil with additions of shaped metal sections for lateral reinforcement.
