The workpiece (16) is secured (14) to a spindle (12) driven in the z direction on a slider (22) by a z-axle motor (28). It is machined by a milling tool (20) rotating on another spindle (18) set into a temp.-controlled chuck (34) on an x-axis slider (36) driven by another motor (40). The chuck (34) incorporates serpentine channels (78,80) through which oil (88) is pumped (94) at a constant temp. set by a heating/cooling element (90). ADVANTAGE - More precise machining is achievable with compensation for deviation of tool spindle axis from exactly defined position w.r.t. workpiece spindle axis.
