Extinguishing oil well fires and blowouts - uses hollow conical chamber and attached valve and fills chamber with quick setting concrete only after correct positioning

A means of extinguishing and sealing burning, oil or natural gas bore holes. The novelty is in the use of a two part appts. which allows accurate positioning over the bore hole, and allows heavy concrete to be poured and set only when the appts. is in position. The lower part of the appts. is a welded steel hollow cone into which is poured a quick setting concrete through several apertures. Once the concrete has set, typically several hours, the spring loaded piston valve in the upper section is closed by release of a retaining catch. Closing the valve extinguishes the fire and shuts down the blow out. A small hollow in the concrete is left, and through valves in the upper surface of the cone, allows oil to be released in a controlled way. ADVANTAGE - The relative light weight of the appts. allows for easy transport and alignment. The sudden closure of the valve shuts off the well completely so that re-ignition of the fire is not possible. Quicker and more certain than digging a shaft to the underground pipe.
