The exhaust gasses are passed through a first heat exchanger (3) through which fresh air is blown, to cool the gasses to below the dew point and thereby condense out acidic components and moisture. The treated gasses are then passed through a second heat exchanger (5) heated by the now warmed fresh air flow to raise the temperature to above the dew point. This enable the gasses to be treated through an electrostatic filter (1) before passing up the chimney stack (2). Some of the cooling of the gasses can be via another, third, heat exchanger (7) for space/water heating uses. The heat exchangers have glass/enamel surfaces. ADVANTAGE - Removes acidic components to prevent damage to electrostatic filters, energy saving heating.
