The directional coupler consists of two wave guides (L1, L2) coupled with one another over a length (1), the distance between them in the coupling region increasing continuously from one end to the other. The coupling region has a length selected so that it is smaller than a quarter of the working wave length in the middle of the frequency band and the distance between the wave guides increases so that the difference between the electrical length of the region for the synchronised wave and that for the push-pull wave is as small as possible.
