The local communication system such as a telephone system within a house may be used for programme control of consumer items, such as lighting and roller blinds. The system has telephone sets (T1) coupled to the controller (KS), which may be installed in a domestic residence. The system computer (RE) has a CPU and a central memory (SPE). A coupling network (KN) connects the computer to a speech memory (SPB). Built into the memory is an action list (AL) that defines the responses required to specific commands transmitted over the telephone network. Outputs are transmitted to load control relays (REL1, REL2). ADVANTAGE - Allows local telephone network to be used to control equipment.
