Continuous thickness measurement device for metal plate rolling mill - has two contact rollers applied pneumatically, with potentiometric measurement of variation in distance between their parallel axes
The thickness (S) of the strip (13) is deduced from measurements of the positions of the wipers of two potentiometers (16, 17) coupled to respective electrically-insulated rollers (2,1) which are urged against opposite faces by pistons (4,3) sliding in cylinders (8,7) supplied (12) with air under pressure. The pistons have equal surfaces (15, 14) under equal pressures and are constrained by internal springs (10,9). If the strip (13) moves (x or y) into another plane with unaltered thickness, the air column (11) oscillates slightly while roller contact (19) is maintained. ADVANTAGE - Forces on both measuring rollers are maintained equal in different positions of measurement planes.
