Measuring rotation angle of rotating or pivoting part - using rotation sensor having stator with N-phase rotary field coil and single phase rotor coil, and measuring relative null position
The method involves using a rotation sensor contg. a stator with a rotary field coil for an n-phase system and a rotor with a single phase rotor coil coupled to the rotating or pivoting measurement part. One period of all phases (R, S, T) is divided into equal parts and voltages measured for each point of one half period. The voltages are stored, read out and applied to the stator rotary field coil phase windings. A counter is started at the magnetic field null and used to detect the rotor's null position w.r.t. the field null and hence the rotor angle. The measuring circuit includes a memory (19), a D/A converter (22) and counter (18) which can be clocked at a high rate for high resolution measurements. ADVANTAGE - Does not require specific A.C. supply or carrier modulation. High accuracy.
