The plant comprises a high temp. furnace for high calorific wastes with a liq. slag outlet, and a carbonising furnace for wastes of low calorific value and a post-oxidn. plant, for the flue-gas carbonised gas mixt. produced from the carbonising furnace. The wastes of low calorific value are carbonised directly with flue gas. The novelty is that the high temp. furnace, operated with (near) stoichiometric supply of combustion air, is coupled to the carbonising furnace, and the flue gases from the high temp. furnace contact the carbonised material in the carbonising furnace and the carbonised coke is burnt in the high temp. furnace.
