A carding machine apparatus for textile fibres, (e.g. cotton, synthetic fibres) comprises a rotatable cylinder (4) the surface of which is provided with an endless metal sawtooth clothing (4a). and a stationary carding element (13, 14) comprising a support member 15. (e.g. a plate element). which is provided on its inner side (base face) with a metal clothing (17) comprising saw-tooth strips, (e.g. sawtooth sections, arranged next to one another in series), and which covers part of the circumference of cylinder (4), the clothing on member 15 and the clothings on cylinder (4) being arranged opposite one another to form a carding area. In order to provide an apparatus that is capable, especially, of performing improved carding work, the carding element (13,14) varies in the direction of rotation (arrow A) of the cylinder (4). The variation may be in the form of tooth shape, front angle, tooth height, overall height, shape of the tip, tooth back, distance from tooth to tooth and density. IMAGE
