The cables are laid in protective tubing (23) produced of plastic, e.g. PVC, PE, that has an outer coating of a conductive plastic (25) and has an intermediate shielding layer of metal foil (24). Sections of tubing are coupled together using sleeves (18) that have internal grooves (28) to receive O-rings (29) providing an effective seal. An internal section (27) provides surfaces to locate the ends of the tubes agianst. The metal foil (39) is carried across the sleeve to maintain a continuous electrical path. ADVANTAGE - Mechanically robust.
