Mixing reactive components for consolidation of underground rock - using system which discharges them from drums using filtered and dried compressed air so that they only meet at final output pump
Reactive components, or components which react with moisture of the atmosphere, and isocyanate in particular, is/are reacted underground to consolidate rock etc., in e.g., tunnel construction, where the isocyanate plus waterglass with/without other components/additives are pressed into the rock. In the system used, the isocyanate and waterglass are stored in separate containers and only mix together in the feed pump. The reactive component is both transported and temporarily stored in a readily handled container/drum; it is taken from the drum when required by compressed air; beforehand, however moisture and any entrained particles of contaminant are largely removed from the compressed air concerned and, when the drum is empty, it is taken back to its source for refilling. ADVANTAGE - The procedure enables containers for repeated use to be employed underground. Such containers can be large in capacity and of rugged design so that they can be handled empty. The procedure produces little or no solid or gaseous reaction products so that the drums can be used some 10 times without being cleaned.
