Dermatological preparations contg. tocopherol and isoprenoid lipid - synergise antibiotics, corticoid(s) and chemotherapeutics in treatment of eczema, allergy and esp. acne

Dermatological prepns. (A) contg. (a) a biologically active tocopherol, (b) a biologically active isoprenoid lipid and (c) a conventional carrier are claimed. The tocopherol is pref. present in an amt. of 0.3-6 wt.% and is esp. dl-alpha-tocopherol acetate. Substances forming an aq.-alcoholic soln. or esp. an aq.-alcoholic emulsifying gel are pref. used as the carrier. The isoprenoid lipid is pref. present in an amt. of 0.1-2 wt.% and is esp. farnesol or a deriv. . (A) can also contain vitamin A derivs., e.g. retinol or its acetate or palmitate, carotinoids, e.g. beta-carotene, or other fat-soluble vitamins, unsatd. fatty acids, antibiotics, corticoids and other chemotherapeutics. USE/ADVANTAGE - (A) are used for the treatment of eczema, skin allergies and esp. acne, partic. acne vulgaris. They are pref. applied in combination with antibiotics, corticoids and other chemotherapeutics which are conventionally used orally or topically against acne. Combined application is pref. at intervals. (A) have a synergistic effect on the antibiotics, corticoids and other chemotherapeutics, giving an increased and broader spectrum of activity with fewer side-effects. Further, (A) are non-toxic, can be prepd. readily and can be rapidly and uniformly applied.
