Hot runner nozzle for e.g. injection mould - has outer heater element and rectangular gate outlet with large cross=section to allow ion injection pressure

A hot runner nozzle for plastic moulding tools, such as e.g. injection moulding equipment, has a resistance heater and a gate for the melt. The outlet of this gate is rectangular and narrow in shape. The example shown has the nozzle head (2) screwed on (3) and contains the melt flow bore (4) which widens round a torpedo. Both the main body (1) and head (2) have an outer heater element (5) and a thermometer (not shown). The torpedo (6) has two diametrically opposite lugs to fix it in position. The outlet (9) of the gate is rectangular in shape and is relatively large in area. As a variant on this design the gate outlet (9) can alternatively have additional e.g. crossarms or the whole outlet can have an e.g. S-shape. ADVANTAGE - The design enables the injection pressure to be minimised and hence produces visually and mechanically excellent mouldings.
