Effluent treatment agent (A) comprises: (a) at least one 1-18C aluminium alkoxide and/or an aluminium salt of a 6-18C carboxylic acid; and (b) at least one silicate deriv. adsorbent. The treatment apparatus comprises 3 reservoirs placed on top of each other. (A) comprises a 1-4C aluminium alkoxide, pref. aluminium (m)ethoxide, -isopropoxide or -sec.- or -tert.-butoxide and bentonite. The parts per weight ratio of (a):(b) is 1:30-1:5 esp. 1:20-1:8. (A) also contains a polyelectrolyte flocculating agent a hydrophobic agent and/or a filtering aid. (A) comprises two parts, one contg. (a) and the other contg. (b). USE/ADVANTAGE - For treating water and effluent esp. water from sanding-, grinding- and polishing machinery. Harmful impurities are removed without release of onions into water.
