The light dimming circuit (C) has a control stage (3) that can be a solid state unit, e.g. transistor or triac, coupled to a power stage (A) connected to the light bulb (LA). The control unit receives inputs from an actuator (A) via a coupling circuit (2). The coupling circuit has an input stage (AK) that operates with relatively low voltages, e.g. 10V, and this is electrically isolated from the mains side (WK) to provide safe operation. In an alternative version the coupler and power stages are combined in a single unit. ADVANTAGE - Isolates mains supply from dimmer switch.
