A rectifier circuit is coupled to a fast response isolator in which the bus-bar (3) has four take-off lines (A-D). Each take-off line has an isolating switch (4), current converter (5) coupling valve (6), shunt thyristor (7) and auxiliary isolator (7). Located between the bus-bar (3) and the coupling line (8) is a coupling/discharge circuit (16). This has a coupling thyristor (9), discharge thyristor (10), capacitor (11) and blocking diode (12). ADVANTAGE - Provides protection using fast-isolators and enables simple testing.
