An agent (A) for increasing the flowering, fruiting and seed harvest of small-seeded leguminosae contains substd. 1,2,4-triazoles (I). (I) pref. have the formula (I), where X = -CO- or -CH(OH)-. (I) is pref. 1-(4-chlorophenoxy)- 3,3-dimethyl-1-(1H-1,2,4 -triazol-1-yl)- -butan- 2-one (Ia) or the corresp. -2-ol (Ib). Further, (A) is formulated as a soln., emulsion or suspension contg. liq. and/or solid extenders or diluents and/or surfactants as well as opt. growth regulators, phyto-hormones, fertilisers and/or plant protectants. USE/ADVANTAGE - (A) is used esp. to improve the seed harvest of lucerne, red clover and white clover and is pref. applied in amts. of 100-1000 g/ha at 100-600 l/ha 20 days before flowering to 10 days after flowering, esp. when flowering begins or ends. (A) is more effective than gibberelic acid, 2,4,5-trichlorophenoxyacetic acid, chlorocholine chloride, succinic acid mono-(N,N-dimethyl-hydrazide), 2,3,5-triiodobenzoic acid and ethephon, and also has no phytotoxicity.
