A double modulation is used for transmitting analog information signals over an optical fibre. The information signal is converted in a first step in a HF, carrierless signal limited to one polarity plane. In a second step the signal modulates an optical radiation source in a B-operation with continuous amplitude. Thus no transmission energy is consumed with the information signal missing. Pref. the information signal is converted after the first step into a pulse width or pulse plane modulated signal. In the second step it modulates the optical radiation source in a time continuous, intensity manner. USE/ADVANTAGE - Audio signal transmission using light, without light radiation in modulation intervals, while reducing thermal exposure to optical components.
