Highly viscous strand mass cutter - has cutter linked to carrier with limits to define cutting depth and higher applied cutting speed than material relaxation speed

In the appts. to cut sections from a strand of high viscous material, the cutter (1) is linked to a carrier (2), with a system (6, 13 and/or 15) to limit the cutting depth. The speed at which the cutter (1) is applied to the strand (14) is higher than the relaxation speed of the strand mass. Pref. the cutter (1) has a mechanism to retract it or/and hold it in place before and after it has made contact with the strand (14). The cutter (1) is linked to the carrier (2) by a spring, or a spring (13) presses the cutter (1) against the carrier (2). A limit stop (15) is set at the strand (14) material to determine the cutting depth of the cutter (1). USE/ADVANTAGE - The appts. is for cutting sections from masses such as molten silicate glass, caramel or molten plastics. The mechanism gives a clean cutting action, without marking.
