The method of simultaneous modulation and coupling of coherent light beams involves generating two partial beams (14,15) of a coherent beam (11) with symmetrical frequency shifts using a Bragg cell (4) with light incident on both sides at the Bragg angle. A first partial beam (15) is deflected from the laser beam in the cell. The beam (11) passing through the cell is reflected back upon itself and the second partial beam (14) deflected from the reflected beam in the cell. Coupling into the ring gyro combines coupling and modulation. USE/ADVANTAGE - E.g. for optical data transmission via optical fibres, interferometric length measurement sensors, optical rotation detectors using laser gyros. Improved light modulation is achieved with reduced cost and in combination with coupling into the gyro.
