Expansion block in underground pipe bend - has insulated covering but insulation on outer side of bend is under compression and compresses softened pipe insulation over expanded pipe

Expansion block has thermal insulation round it in the form of thermoplastic and/or thermoelastic material. Between the insulation of the expansion length of pipe and the outer soil covering, an expansion cushion is located on the inner side; on the outer side another cushion is located whose elastic recovery however is greater than that of the first; by this means if the pipe becomes heated up too fast the insulating block round the expanding length displaced sideways is pressed back to its original position. (B) has the steel pipe bend (1), its surrounding thermoplastic thermal insulation (2) and the outermost U-section metal plate cover (3). The insulation (2) is pref. bitumen/cork mixt.. Expansion cushions (5) are between the cover (3) and the soil (4) on the inner side (3'). ADVANTAGE - The block even permits shock-like sudden expansion of pipes with high temp. contents but enveloped by still cold insulation without causing the pipe to move in the insulation.
