Method consists of producing a total coating thickness of 10-30mm made up of a stable austenitic structure in the transitional area next to the base material of the roller and a martensitic structure at the surface of the coating. The coating has a hardness gradient of 300 - 500 Hv throughout the multilayered coating. USE/ADVANTAGE - Coating rollers used in the cement industry for breaking up clinker. The hardness gradient ensures a crack-resistant elastic layer between the multilayers which leads to a work life of over 3000 hrs.
