Road junction traffic lights circuit - uses sensor, e.g. radar type, working on IR or microwave basis

The traffic lights circuit has a traffic signalling light and an attached, or integrated, IR or microwave sensor, e.g. a radar sensor. The sensor detects approaching vehicles to allow the signalling cycle to be adjusted for optimising the waiting time, in dependence on the detected traffic flow. Pref. bandwidth limited radar sensors similar to those used for an automatic door are used. ADVANTAGE - Adaption of traffic lights sequence to traffic conditions.
